Course Conditions (11.5.2020)

We will be preparing the Weiskopf Course for member play this morning and will allow carts off of paths.  There will be the following exceptions:  we ask that all carts drive on fairways and avoid the rough and there is no cart traffic on #s 4 & 6.  We have included #4 on this list due to the flooding that occurred on this fairway two weeks ago.

Practice areas and ranges are open.  We have put additional topdressing down on the chipping green and have added sand to the practice bunker for those who use that area.

Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies becoming overcast throughout the day, temperatures in the mid 60s, winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph.

Wednesday, November 4, 2020

Course Conditions (11.4.2020)

We will be preparing the Devlin Course this morning for member play and we will begin the day as cart path only.  We are going to begin the day as cart path only due to the amount of leaves that we are planning on chopping this morning; we will continue to evaluate course conditions and make changes when possible.

The ranges and practice areas are open and we ask that golfers practice social distancing.

*Tee markers have been removed from the Devlin Course as we make our way through chopping fallen leaves.

*We will begin to get back to mowing short grass tomorrow after the long wet and cold period that we experienced.

Course Conditions(11.3.2020)

For the first time in over 2 weeks we have gone over 24 hours without measurable precipitation.  Today we will begin a stretch of what should be warm and dry weather, with that being said; we will start the day with carts on paths only and continue monitor conditions and make changes if/when applicable.  There are still slick areas throughout the property and ask that golfers use caution.  We will be preparing the Weiskopf Course for member play, our goal is to remove leaves from greens and tees today and than get on fairways beginning tomorrow.

Practice areas are open and we ask that members exercise social distancing.

Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 40/low 50s, winds out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

As a reminder:
*Our portable bathrooms are off of the courses and will not return for the remainder of the season.  The halfway house and the pool house will remain open.

*We will be removing tee markers on both courses beginning this week to aid in our cleaning off of playing surfaces.

*It is our plan to have mowers back out on the courses once we dry down.

Course Conditions (11.2.2020) UPDATE

1pm:  Walking is permitted on the Devlin Course, all practice areas will remain closed throughout the day.  Tomorrow we will be preparing the Weiskopf Course for member play.  As a reminder; we will be without portable bathrooms for the remainder of the season.  The bathrooms at the Weiskopf House and the pool will remain open until we experience long term cold temperatures.

8am:  We have one tree that was brought down due the winds over the past 24 hours, it is out of play and has little impact on the courses.

We will allow walking on the Devlin Course this afternoon, once temperatures approach 40 degrees, roughly 1pm-2pm.  The current temperature is 34 degrees and we are still experiencing strong winds with an advisory in effect from 4pm this afternoon until 1am tomorrow morning.  We will be making our way through both courses this morning to take stock of any tree damage that occurred over the past 24 hours.  We will continue to update the blog with pertinent information on start times and weather updates.

Today's forecast calls for cloudy skies with snow flurries, high temperatures in the low 40s, with winds out of the west at 15-25 mph, occasional gusts of over 40 mph.

Sunday, November 1, 2020

Course Conditions (11.1.2020) UPDATE

With the current weather we will be forced to move all cart traffic to paths only, no exceptions.

We will begin the day allowing carts off of paths and will make necessary adjustments if/when applicable.  There are still soft areas throughout the property and ask that ALL TRAFFIC STAY IN FAIRWAYS.

Practice ranges and greens are open and we continue to ask golfers to exercise social distancing.

Today’s forecast is a strange one:  occasional rain and wind leading into snow showers in the afternoon.  Temps will drop from the 50s we are experiencing now into the 30s.  Winds are out of the west at 20-30 mph with gusts over 40 mph.  We may have snow accumulation between 1”-3”.

Course conditions (10.31.2020) UPDATE

(UPDATE) 9:30am We are continuing to experience a heavy frost as current temperature is 32 degrees. This will force us to delay tee times beyond 10am. I will communicate with the pro shop as to when the frost lifts and temperatures rise.

Course conditions (10.31.2020)

(UPDATE) 7:10am We will be in a frost delay this morning as the temperature has dropped 3 degrees to 31, tee times at 10am. If it can be any sooner I will communicate that with the pro shop. We are currently evaluating the courses to see if there is frost as temperatures are currently 34 degrees and will update as soon as possible on start times. We will remain with carts on paths with no exceptions. We did receive another .3 of rain yesterday morning.   Please use caution as you play through the courses as it is extremely wet.  Please assist us in replacing divots whether on tees or fairways as this is the most opportune time for recovery. Please repair ball marks. The range will be open with mats at both ends. Please continue to follow all social distancing policies and procedures. The weather calls for highs approaching the upper 40's with sunshine and winds 5-10mph out of the south.

Course Conditions (10.30.2020) & Weather Info

We have received an additional .6" of precipitation over the past 24 hours.  This amount on an already saturated course will force us to keep all cart traffic on paths, no exceptions.  We will begin the day with the driving range closed and reassess throughout the day and make changes if/when applicable.  We have experienced an abnormal amount of rain over the past 14 days (9")  and will continue to clear playing surfacing manually before we are able to get large equipment on turf.

We will be preparing the Devlin Course for member play today.

Today's forecast calls for cloudy with light rain this morning, temperatures in the low to mid 40s, winds out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.

There is a strong likelihood of a frost tomorrow morning, this frost very well may delay the first tee time.  We will continue to utilize this site as well as Zingle to communicate any change in start times with our membership.

In looking at the long range forecast:  we will have a few obstacles over the next 3-4 days in weather conditions.  We are looking at overnight temperatures in the 30s, frost, and the possibility of snow Sunday evening going into Monday morning.  With all of that being said: I am confident that we will be able to clear the course towards the end of next week with temperatures back in the 60s.

Course Conditions (10.29.2020)

Last night we received another .1" of precipitation with more on the way as we experience the leading edge of Hurricane Zeta, rainfall could accumulate up to 1".  We will remain cart path only, no exceptions.

We will be forced to keep the range closed this morning due to the wet conditions, we will re-evaluate throughout the day and update this group and the blog with changes.

Today's forecast calls for rain throughout the day, temperatures in the upper 40s, winds out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

In looking at the forecast over the next week: it appears as though we will stay in this wet stretch of weather through the weekend with a possibility of snow Sunday evening, the good news is that we should experience some dry weather towards the middle of next week.

The practice greens and range are open but we do ask that members only hit off of mats.

Today's forecast calls for light rain this morning with breaks in the rain this afternoon, temperatures in the upper 40s, low 50s, winds out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

As a reminder: portable bathrooms will be removed from the courses on Monday for the remainder of the season.

Course Conditions (10.26.2020) & Info

This morning we will be preparing the Devlin Course for a 10am shotgun and the Weiskopf Course for member play.  We will begin the day with carts on paths and evaluate the courses throughout the day and make changes if/when appropriate.  We did receive a trace amount of precipitation last evening which made an already wet course that much softer.  We ask that all golfers use caution as they make their way around the courses.

Ranges and practice areas are open and we will be performing our range maintenance to both tees beginning at 10:30am and will reopen immediately afterwards.

Today's forecast calls for temperatures in the high 40s/low 50s, overcast skies, passing rain showers, and winds out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.

***This will be the last week that we have the portable bathrooms out on the courses, the bathrooms at the halfway house and the pool will remain open until we get into freezing temperatures.***

Course Conditions (10.24.2020)

Last evening we received .75" of precipitation, this amount will force us to keep all carts traffic on paths, no exceptions.  We are nearing 6" since Monday which hinders our ability to use heavy machinery to move leaves, we will be working this morning to make sure that we can clear off playing surfaces without causing damage to the turf.  This morning I will be checking the property for downed limbs and/or trees and will update the blog in the event of damage.

Ranges and practice areas are open and we ask that golfers please hit off of mats.

Today's forecast calls for cooler temps (mid 40s), cloudy skies, and winds out of the north at 10-15 mph.

Friday, October 23, 2020

Course Conditions (10.23.2020) & Info

We will begin the day with carts remaining on paths, we will continue to evaluate conditions and make changes if/when possible.  We ask that play begin on the Devlin Course and spill over to the Weiskopf Course when necessary.  Both courses will be prepared for member play.

Ranges and practice areas are open and golfers are asked to please hit off of mats.  Please practice social distancing.

Today's forecast calls for sunny skies this morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon, winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, temperatures in the mid/upper 70s.

This department will be working this fall to re-establish bunker edges throughout the Weiskopf Course, in doing so we will need our membership's help in this effort.  We have already seeded these areas and will look to re-sod other areas however it is crucial that golfers do not exit bunkers on the high or steep side of the hazards.  These steep bunker faces become fragile during the extreme dry periods that we experienced this past summer.

Thank you,
JA

Thursday, October 22, 2020

Course Conditions (10.22.2020)

Last evening and into this morning we received an additional .8" of precipitation which will raise of total rainfall over the past 36 hours to 4.5".  We did have some light flood damage in the way of a few trees along creek banks and erosion around spillways and culverts.  We will begin the cleanup process today that will take time to complete.  We do ask that play remain on the Devlin Course so that we can continue to work through debris on the Weiskopf Course.

We will restrict all cart traffic to cart paths only, no exceptions.  Please do not pass other carts on the turf; with the excessive wet conditions of the courses this will cause unnecessary damage to turf.

We are presently experiencing rain showers that will taper off throughout the day, partly cloudy conditions later in the day with temperatures in the low 70s, light and variable winds.

One issue that can occur with flooding is silt being deposited on turf as the waters recede, we fought this on #7 green on the Devlin Course last season.  We did not have that happen to #7 during this rain event however we are monitoring the fairway on #4 of the Weiskopf Course.

JA

Course Conditions (10.21.2020) UPDATE

10am:  We will be forced to keep both courses closed throughout the day as we allow the flooding to recede.  It appears as though we have some slight damage but nothing catastrophic.

8:30am:  3.5”

6:30am:

We have received 3” of precipitation thus far, we will continue to update this group and the blog with any damage and/or flooding.

Both courses and the ranges are closed until weather improves.

Today’s forecast calls for thunderstorms early than cloudy this afternoon, winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, temperatures in the mid/upper 60s.

We will continue to update this site with daily course conditions as well as pertinent information regarding the 2020 season and upcoming projects to ensure that the 2021 season is successful.

We have heard our membership discuss the collars around greens and the inconsistency in turf types.  This is an issue that develops over time with the bentgrass greens spreading into the rough and the ryegrass rough moving into the collar.  In order to combat this we first chemically removed the unwanted grass and have begun the process of introducing seed to strengthen these areas.  In addition to seeding the collars with bentgrass, we also expanded our fall aerification to include collars and approaches.

Ranges and practice areas are open and we continue to ask that golfers exercise social distancing.

Today's forecast calls for temperatures in the mid/upper 50s, sunny skies, and winds out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

The Weiskopf Course aerification went well and we managed to use a little more sand on greens and tees than was used on the Devlin Course.  I am confident that we will have great healing time in looking at the long range forecast.
