Course Conditions (3.31.2020)

We will allow member play on the Devlin Course today beginning at 9am.  Carts will be limited to cart path only, no exceptions.

Over the past 4 days we have received roughly 3.25" of precipitation, the courses are extremely soft and we ask that golfers use caution.

Again, it is integral that members exercise social distancing while on property.  Please do not touch the flag stick, instead leave it in the cup throughout your round.  Also, please do not place sticks in the ground next to teeing locations; I am confident that at a private country club our membership knows which tees to hit from.

Course Conditions (3.22.2020)

As many of you have experienced when waking up this morning, we are at sub-freezing temperatures.  It is because of these huge swings in temperatures that we have to be extremely protective of the courses.  We have seen a temperature change of 50+ degrees from Friday to this morning.

Friday, March 20, 2020

Course Conditions (3.20.2020)

Today we will allow members to take carts and play the Weiskopf Course.  Due to the rain that we received yesterday afternoon through the evening will force up to keep carts on paths, no exceptions.

Today's forecast calls for temperatures in the mid 60s with a 70% chance of percipitation, winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph.  Temperatures will drop quickly throughout the day and evening; tomorrow our high temperature is forecasted to be in the upper 20s.

Please continue to abide by the club's social distancing precautions.

Thank you,

Course Conditions (3.19.2020)

Due to the rain that we received yesterday afternoon and through the evening we will be forced to limit carts to paths only.  Please be considerate of the course as you pass carts on 1/5, 2/3, and 6/9.

Today's forecast calls for a high temperature in the upper 50s-low 60s, winds out of the east at 5-10 mph, and a 60% chance of precipitation.

We have included in this post the text of an email that Jason Martin sent out to membership yesterday evening; please familiarize with it due to changes in the way that we are doing a few things on the course.

***
We will not have water coolers, ball washers, or bunker rakes on the courses to eliminate hand to hand contact.  We do ask that members level bunker sand with their feet for those who follow them.  Also, please enter bunkers at the low points, do not walk on faces.

Leave the flagstick in the cup throughout the round.  New cups will be cut...with a twist; the cups will be set upside-down.  This trick is to eliminate golfers from touching the flagstick in order to retrieve their ball.  Since scores are not being posted, we also recommend the kindly gesture of "gimmies".

We ask that each member take their own cart in order to continue the practice of social distancing.

We will not be putting practice greens cups out, again, to be extra cautious.  We are placing stakes on the greens that our membership can put towards.

Our departments enjoy our interactions with fellow employee partners and especially our membership, however we are going to keep our distance.  A wave and a "hey" will have to do for the time being.  Please enjoy the day and being out of the house.

Course Conditions (3.18.2020)

Members are invited to walk the Devlin Course beginning at 10am this morning.  The greens have had their spring aerification completed and have been rolled.  We are still performing some spring cleanup on some turf.

Today's forecast calls for temps in the upper 40s-low 50s with winds out of the southeast at 5-10 mph.  There is a 90% chance of precipitation starting later in the day.

Course Conditions (3.17-19.2020)

The Devlin Course is available for walkers to play through the green.

Carts will be available to play the Weiskopf Course beginning Friday.

Due to concerns with everything going on in the world we will not have water coolers available on either course.  We will also be without ballwashers to start the season; in order to limit hand to hand contact.

Please keep in mind that this is an extraordinary situation that we are all dealing with, I do not know that there is a perfect blueprint out there.  We cannot wait to have our membership out on the courses, the guys in our department have put in a great deal of work in the off-season to make improvements.  So I hope to see you all out there beginning this week; my Ma always told me that fresh air is good for you.

Charles Rates

This week we lost a member of our extended team, Charles Rates.  Charles had been a part of Quail Hollow C.C. since 2012 and was responsible for mowing approaches, raking bunkers, and making precision irrigation repairs.  I have included in this post a link to the announcement for Charles; please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.

Course Update

We will continue to allow play on the Devlin Course, walkers to the temporary greens for this week.  The Weiskopf Course is being prepped for play while it remains closed.  Our philosophy behind this is to have a more prepared product for our membership to enjoy.  We will have plenty of work ahead of us but are confident that our membership will be able to start the season off right.

Today (3.12.2020), we are performing our spring aerification on Devlin Course greens, continuing to clean playing surfaces on the Weiskopf Course, and topdressing some playing surfaces throughout the property.

Course Update (3.10.2020)

With the break in the weather we have been laying the groundwork for a great season.

On Monday, we addressed a few tees that stay wet during the spring and fall months.  We pulled cores on Devlin 8 & 14 in order to get air movement and we will follow up by throwing sand when the rain subsides and we dry up.

As we do every spring; we will start the year by throwing sand.  We lightly topdressed the Weiskopf Course and went a little heavier on the Devlin Course ahead of our March aerification.  With the sand down on Devlin we are ready to solid tine the greens.  As a reminder; our Weiskopf Aerification is scheduled for April 6-9.

We still have frozen turf, even though the sun is out and there is snow in the forecast.

Course Conditions (3.4.2020)

I realize that members have recently been asking about the playability of the courses over the next few days and into this weekend.  Ground temps are currently slightly above freezing in the southern facing areas, temperatures in low laying areas are still below freezing.  The next 5 day forecast will calling for below freezing temperatures and the possibility of snow.

We will continue to update this site as the forecast becomes clearer.
