James Waggle

This past weekend we lost a member of our team, Jim Waggle.  "Wags" had been a part of Quail Hollow C.C. for over 30 years and was mainly responsible for mowing the step cut and around the practice greens.  I have included in this post a link to the service announcement for Jim; please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.

Course Conditions (10.5.19)

We will continue to allow carts to cross both courses today as we open Weiskopf from aerification and Devlin will be prepared for our "Superintendent's Revenge" tournament, beginning at 9am.

With regards to Weiskopf aerification; we are extremely excited about the process that was completed.  We implemented a great deal of sand into the greens and approaches.  Some of this sane will still be evident on greens, this is a temporary side effect and will be worked into the canopy over the next day or two.

Ranges should be set up on turf at the cart barn and on mats at the hotel.

Today's forecast calls for temperatures in the low to mid 60s with sunny skies and winds out of the southeast at 10-15 mph.

Weiskopf Aerification (10.4.19)

We are extremely pleased with how the Weiskopf fall aerification has been going.  We have been able to use over twice the amount of sand than this spring.  This sand helps with root development, water movement, and overall plant health.

Verticutting (or vertical mowing) helps to eliminate thatch which in turn helps the bentgrass to grow laterally.  We will see the benefits of these practices this fall and more importantly next season.

The seasonal temperatures that we are about to experience this week will help in speedy recovery from aerification.

JA

Course Conditions (10.4.19)

We will allow carts to cross Devlin at 90 degrees, the winds have aided in drying the Devlin Course, however there are still wet areas that members should avoid.

Ranges should be set up on turf at the cart barn and on mats at the hotel.

Today's forecast calls for temps in the mid to upper 50s, mostly cloudy skies, winds out of the northeast at 10-15 mph.

Course Conditions (10.3.19)

Yesterday afternoon and through the evening we received .5" of precipitation.  We are currently experiencing another system which will cause us to begin the day cart path only, no blue flags on Devlin.

Ranges should be set up on mats at the cart barn and on turf at the hotel.

Today's forecast calls for temps in the mid to upper 70s, cloudy skies and winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph.  The rain should move out of the area by mid-morning.

JA

Weiskopf Aerification (10.3.19)

#8 Weiskopf green after the .5" of rain.  Mother Nature did a lot of the work for us by driving sand and fertilizer into the aerification holes.  We will drag all of the greens to ensure uniformity.

#4 Weiskopf tee.  We took an aggressive approach to thatch management during this fall's aerification dates.  We have successfully verticut all tees and fairways twice.  This process removes excess leaf blade and thatch and promotes the bent grass to grow laterally.

5:30am

Yesterday we received .5" of rain that was perfectly timed.  Now we could use Mother Nature to stop the rain so that we can put the final touches on a great process.

Weiskopf Aerification (10.2.19)

Perfect timing of rain at 4pm.  Thursday we will fertilize, drag, continue to vertical cut, and throw a few more holes out there.  All before we put the course back together.

JA

#3 Weiskopf green complex.
We are so satisfied with our process on greens that this year we have decided to expand it into approaches and run off areas, seen here on #3.  We will solid tine these areas and drag in the sand with the green.

JA

Course Conditions (10.2.19)

Weiskopf will remain closed as we are continuing to aerify that course.

Devlin will continue to allow carts to cross at 90 degrees, the only exceptions remain all par 3s.

Ranges should be set up on mats at the cart barn and on turf at the hotel.

Today's forecast calls for a slight break from the heat of yesterday.  The high temperature will be in the upper 70s, winds out of the northwest at 5-10 mph with mostly cloudy skies.  The chance of precipitation increases throughout the day.

We will update this blog with our progress on Weiskopf aerification.

Weiskopf Aerification (10.1.19)

Topdressing #17 approach on Weiskopf

Today's forecast calls for hot temperatures, highs can be in the upper 80s, winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a thunderstorm this evening.

Aerification:

Beginning this afternoon we will topdress all greens and begin to punch holes in select areas.  Flags and cups will be removed once play is pushed to Devlin.
