High Wind Warning

We will experience a high wind warning in effect until 4am Thursday morning.  Damaging winds are expected to impact trees and power lines

#16 Devlin Fairway

For the second year in a row, we are partnering with Ohio State University to run a trial on short cut turf.  Today, OSU staff has placed a plastic sheet on the treated area.  We ask that members, please stay off of this area.

Update (11.25.19)

Question:  Why has the Weiskopf Course been closed and play has been pushed to Devlin?

Answer:  There are a couple reasons why we have moved play exclusively to the Devlin Course.  First, the snow from that early November event hung around longer on the Weiskopf Course; especially on #s 4, 5, 6, and 10.  Secondly, road work has begun on the new development between 11, 12, and 13.  Road crews are looking to pave the road the week after Thanksgiving, this is weather dependent. 

Question:  Why are there a handful of pink flags on the Devlin Course?

Answer:  Valves that turn on/off the irrigation water during the season sometimes go missing.  Either grass grows over lids, lids get lost or mowed, etc.  The Devlin Course does not have an "as-built" with where all of the pipes and valves are located and we will be doing our own audit this fall into the winter.

Question:  Are you guys going to take down a lot of trees this winter?

Answer:  Over the past two winters; we have taken an aggressive approach to tree management.  This winter we will remove a few trees in order to improve turf quality.  More importantly, we have a list of projects that we want to achieve to improve the course as a whole.  Irrigation updates, drainage additions are all on our "to-do" list.

Question:  Is the blog going to continue into the winter?

Answer: Yes...however we will not have as many daily updates as we have during the season.  Weather systems, project updates, and department updates will all be posted on the blog as needed, but we may take a few days off from time to time.

Course Conditions (11.24.19)

Due to temperatures in the mid 30s, we will be forced to postpone start times to 11am.  We will communicate with the pro shop staff in the event that we can push this time up.

Play should be on the Devlin Course and carts are restricted to path only.

Beginning at 9:30am; walking will be permitted on the Devlin Course ONLY.  The Weiskopf greens still have a layer of frozen turf and we do not want to damage the putting surfaces.

I am aware that the sun will be out today and that it will be slightly warmer than it has been.  However, we will experience frozen turf in pockets throughout the courses for most, if not all, of the day.  Snow will not be melted in shaded areas and we run the risk of serious damage to the plant.
We will allow golf as soon as conditions allow.

Forecast

It appears as though we may not be done with golf for 2019.  Looking at the long range forecast, we may experience a melting and have temperatures in the 40s next week.  We will continue to update this site with information regarding course conditions and work with our pro shop staff in keeping members up to date.

Winter Reminder

As the snow begins to fly I wanted to take a moment to remind our membership to be careful as they enter and exit the club grounds. 

We do salt the main walking paths and the most used driveways, there may still be areas that are slick due to ice.  Even salt has its limitations when temperatures are in the teens and below.

Finally, it is extremely important that both my guys and our membership pay attention while we are plowing snow during the day.  We ask that cars and walkers keep their distance as from both our plows to ensure that accidents do not occur.

Upcoming Weather

We will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 4pm this afternoon through 10am Wednesday morning.  We can expect anywhere from 6"-12" of snow and low temperatures in the 20s, winds will be out of the west at 15-20 mph.

Course Conditions (11/10/19)

We will allow play on the Weiskopf Course today beginning at 10am.  There are and will be pockets of snow throughout property and we are still running the risk of a frost this morning.

Carts will be restricted to paths only.

There is a strong likelihood of precipitation this afternoon that will continue overnight and turn into measurable snow tomorrow morning.

Today, 11.9.19, both courses are closed; however, there may be some maintenance that occurs later today on property. 

We are optimistic that golf will be possible tomorrow before the forecasted snow on Monday and Tuesday.

We will continue to keep the Devlin Course closed today as we blow out the irrigation system.  We are expecting measurable snow later in the day (up to 1").

Course Conditions (11.6.19) UPDATE

We will allow play on the Weiskopf Course ONLY beginning at 9am, cart path only no blue flags.

There are a number of processes taking place on property that our membership should be aware of:

*The Devlin Course is closed as we are performing our deep tine aerification on all greens.  This process will also be performed on #s 4 & 5 Weiskopf.

*The Weiskopf Course's irrigation system is being blown out today, there may be heads that shoot air/water throughout the day.

*The bathrooms have been winterized ahead of sub-freezing temperatures later this week.

UPDATE (11.5.19)

Today we will be winterizing the bathroom units at the pool house and the Weiskopf halfway house.  The extended forecast is calling for sub-freezing temperatures and to avoid any broken pipes we will need to remove water from lines.

I will update this site throughout the fall if/when there is frozen turf and any delays due to conditions.

Today will be the first off-season day without carts being pulled.

Most amenities are off of both courses.

Today will be the warmest day of the week with a high temperature in the upper 40s/low 50s.  The probability of snow increases later in the week.

Good morning, We received our first snowfall of the year, both courses and the range will be closed for the day.  The weather for the day calls for continued intermittent snow showers with light rain, with high temperatures approaching 40 degrees.  Thanks James Dobbins

Over the past 24 hours we received 1.3" of precipitation, we will be forced to restrict any carts to paths only, no blue flags.

Ranges should be set up on mats on both sides of the range.

Today's forecast calls for winds to begin to die-down around 10am, temperatures will reach the upper 30s/low 40s, there is a chance of wintry mix this afternoon.

ALSO:

As we make our way through the courses this morning we have not seen any trees that came down due to the excessive winds.  

We are bringing in non-essential amenities off of both courses; for example: water coolers, enter/exit posts, 150 yard markers.
